Gifts of appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds held for more than one year can provide special tax advantages. Donors are eligible to claim a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of securities donated and will never have to pay capital gains taxes on appreciation. Securities held for less than one year also may be donated but the deduction is limited to the lesser cost basis or market value. Check with your financial advisor for more information.
To transfer securities to us, have your broker contact Right Moves for Youth (704) 377-4425 ext. 103. We have a brokerage account and can provide the information necessary to facilitate the transfer. Gifts of Property
Gifts of appreciated homes, farms and other real property can receive the same tax treatment as gifts of securities- a full fair market value deduction and no tax on the capital gain. If debt-free property is donated to Right Moves for Youth, the gift is deductible at the property’s appraised value. It is sometimes possible to donate a partial interest in property, such as percentage of ownership or mineral rights.
A planned gift is any charitable gift to Right Moves for Youth, usually deferred, that is planned, typically with professional advice, to optimize the donor’s financial, tax and estate plans while helping to secure the long-term financial security of the organization.
Corporate Matching Gifts
You may be able to multiply the value of your gift by participating in a matching gift program provided through an employer or board membership. Many companies match charitable gifts made by employees (or joint gifts with their spouses), retirees, or board members. Outright gifts and the deduction value of irrevocable gifts may qualify.
Memorial & Tribute Gifts
Any gift may be designated in memory or honor of a friend, family member or other person.
Gifts In-Kind
Another way to support Right Moves for Youth is through gifts of personal property. If a gift is related to the ‘charitable purpose’ of the school, the donor may be eligible for a deduction of the asset’s full fair market value. Examples of gifts in kind include laboratory equipment, artwork, computer software or hardware.
