Otis Stroud: A Right
Moves For Youth Success Story
How was Right Moves helpful to
you when you were in school?
RMFY provided me with a sense of community. It opened doors to other organizations that were on campus that I was not aware of. I became more involved in school and was elected the president of the Inner Club Council and became an officer in various organizations at school. RMFY formed tight bonds with members that lasted throughout college and even today.
Are there principles that you learned during your work with RMFY that you still use today?
Absolutely. I think that the High-5 pledge is the foundation of how I started my college career and young adult career, particularly having strong morals and then sticking with them. For example, I chose not to drink during my entire time during college. RMFY helped me to build a positive moral foundation and taught me that I have to answer to myself everyday. Maintaining my character and never compromising under any circumstance was something that RMFY taught me.
What are your career goals?
I have high aspirations to continue to utilize my business degree to move into corporate America. I don’t solely believe in focusing on one area because versatility in any career field is always a plus. So right now I still continue to explore my career options in whatever opportunity that may arise. Further down the line I plan to earn my MBA and use it as a tool to gain an upper level management position in a Fortune 500 company.
Do you volunteer with RMFY?
What I like most about volunteering is the opportunity to help bring out the best in students, much like RMFY did for me seven years ago. Their future is so bright and optimistic and I’d love to help them make those decisions to reach their full potential.
