Inspiring Moments and Big Wins: RMFY Annual Awards Ceremony Recap

On May 15, 2025, the sanctuary of Myers Park United Methodist Church filled with joy, pride, and purpose as Right Moves For Youth (RMFY) hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony—a powerful evening honoring student achievement, volunteer dedication, and the transformative impact of mentorship.

This event was more than just a celebration; it was a testament to what happens when a community invests in its youth. From heartfelt student speeches to the honoring of volunteers who give selflessly, every moment reflected the strength of the RMFY mission: helping students in grades 6–12 make the most of their education, connections, and opportunities.

The ceremony began with opening words from Demetrius Wilson, Vice Chair of the RMFY Board of Directors, setting a tone of gratitude and inspiration. Student Ambassador Shelby Dixon from Palisades High School led the Hi-5 Pledge, a meaningful tradition that reminds us of the commitment RMFY students make to themselves and each other. As the scent of dinner filled the air and the invocation was offered by Program Director Dee Rankin, the room was already buzzing with emotion.

Honoring Our Champions
The awards presentations were a moving highlight. Volunteers from middle and high schools, CMPD, and the Sheriff’s Office were recognized for their commitment to our youth, including Officer Joseph Sullivan and Deputy Xavier Hamilton. Betsy Mack, Vice President of Social Responsibility for the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, received the prestigious J. Frank Bragg Community Leadership Award—a symbol of how partnerships across sectors can uplift a generation.

Spotlighting Student Brilliance
Then came the heart of the evening: our students. From Group Members of the Year to Ambassadors of Excellence, dozens of young people were recognized for their leadership, growth, and positive influence. These weren’t just names on a list—they are young leaders from across Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools who have risen to the challenge and made the Right Moves.

And for our seniors, the moment was especially profound. The presentation of the RMFY Distinguished Senior Graduation Stole honored graduating students who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and a clear path forward. Each stole worn is a symbol of triumph—of youth who chose resilience, community, and ambition.

The Future is Bright
As the night closed, the message was clear: RMFY is not just a program. It’s a movement. It’s about rewriting narratives, investing in potential, and building brighter futures—one student at a time.

To every student, volunteer, partner, and supporter: thank you. Your belief in the mission and your unwavering support are what make nights like this possible.

✨ Let’s continue making the right moves together.
