“Keep Moving”: Shanelle Tate’s Right Moves For Youth Journey and the Power of Mentorship
For Shanelle Tate, high school wasn’t just about textbooks and tests—it was about transformation. And that transformation began with Right Moves For Youth.
“To this day, when I remember high school, it is mostly times and experiences I had with the group,” Shanelle shared. Those moments weren’t just memories—they were the foundation for the path she walks today.
Shanelle is now a second-year law student at Seton Hall University, pursuing her dreams with purpose and confidence. Her journey is a testament to what’s possible when students are surrounded by community, opportunity, and mentors who believe in them.
Through Right Moves For Youth, Shanelle was introduced to a world beyond her immediate reach. “The group helped me explore more opportunities and gave me an idea of what good mentors looked like,” she said. It was through her time as an RMFY Ambassador and the safe space of group sessions that she developed leadership, perspective, and purpose. She especially credits her mentor, Ryan Grammatico, for having a lasting impact. “The mentorship was great… there is nothing I would have changed about my experience.”
Today, as she prepares for a future in law and advocacy, Shanelle continues to carry the lessons of RMFY with her. Her words of encouragement to current RMFY students are simple, yet profound:
“Keep moving. Even when you don’t know where to go, keep moving—and the ‘right moves’ will find you.”
Shanelle’s story reminds us all of the power of movement, mentorship, and believing in something greater. She is living proof that with the right support, young people can go anywhere—and make a difference once they get there.
The RMFY family is incredibly proud of Shanelle and all she’s accomplished. Her success is not just her own—it’s a shared victory for every student who dares to dream and every mentor who shows up.
And at Right Moves For Youth, that’s exactly the future we’re building. One student, one mentor, one step at a time.
